Basically, the cable companies and TV networks can’t (or don’t) get accurate numbers on TV viewing, so the Nielson Company sends out special TV set-top boxes that record TV viewing as it happens. There are also Nielson families that manually record their TV viewing habits.
The average viewer has zero impact on TV ratings. Sorry kids.
